I had written about my new interests in birds and butterflies after planting some flowers this spring. Probably about six to eight weeks ago my hummingbird quit coming to the feeder. I went out to check things out and saw that there were a lot of ants in the feeder. This was interesting because I have the feeder hanging from a shepherds hook that TW hung on our deck. Seems like a long way for the ants to march up the deck, up the hook, and then into the feeder. Anyways, I just figured that the hummingbirds didn't like the ants so that is why they didn't come back. So, why didn't I empty the feeder, clean it out, and then refill it...I am not sure. I kept thinking that TW would do it for me. I mean, I did get the feeder for Mother's Day so doesn't that mean that I should have one year maintenance. :) In the mean time my bird feeder also ran out of seed. I kept forgetting to buy more when I was at the store. Finally, last week TW filled both feeders. But, where have all the birds gone? They are mad at me. They thought they could depend on me and I let them down. What do I have to do to get them to come back? I did notice one bird eating some seed this morning, but this hardly compares to what it used to be like. There would be four to five birds on this feeder and then about twenty waiting in the tree next to the feeder to get their turn. I miss my birds! I like to wake up and see my little friends their in the morning, greeting me with their beauty. All I can do is wait.

you do have to keep the hummingbird feeder clean and fresh food weekly - don't know if you have the recipe..but it's 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Boil water to remove chemicals for about 1 minute. Remove from heat and add sugar. Once cooled put in the feeder and you're ready to go.
And..the color red in the food is not important as long as there is red on the feeder...I will take a pic of mine and post it...
and they always come back!
I hope they come back! I love looking out my back porch & watching the birds too!
